What We DoHome / What We Do
It is not hard to see that for most Americans who have accumulated wealth, managing the complexity that accompanies wealth is either time-consuming or a list of guilt-inducing to-dos hanging over our heads. Time spent trying to interpret IRS codes on Required Minimum Distributions is a morning missed with a grandchild or another afternoon not golfing. New clients often tell us that our process helps them gain confidence and clarity while saving time.
Leverage Our System
Very few families save money by learning new professions like financial planning and wealth management while practicing on themselves. The Aegis Wealth Management System is a five step process that we have used daily for years on behalf of thousands of families. We continually work to improve so our clients benefit from the best research and technology. While even the most intelligent, educated and disciplined person would struggle to replicate our effectiveness for themselves, we effortlessly bring together and make sense of our client’s financial lives while keeping a laser focus on their objectives.
Build a Better Plan
Financial planning is an ongoing process. Even when a new client already has a plan, we almost always uncover new, valuable ideas. But be warned: While financial planning systems are designed to uncover hidden value, the question we encourage investors to consider is “value for who?” Since most systems available are offered by advertising or financial companies with the objective to sell widgets, let’s just say we think most “planning” we encounter is more like a systematized financial ambush. That can be worse than worthless.
Aegis Wealth Group is different: We do not issue IPOs, manufacture mutual funds, underwrite RV insurance or originate mortgages. Our system was developed in 1985 by a privately owned company that pays engineers and academics to do 1 thing: make financial planning software so awesome, financial planners would pay to use it. And so, Aegis Wealth Group is part of a minority group of financial advisors that pay an annual fee so we can use an innovative system that is not an ambush.
We then took a great system and improved it by changing assumptions that, surprisingly, everyone seems to ignore. For example, we use current interest rates instead of historical bond performance and we added investment expenses.
Add More Effective Wealth Management
If you think wealth management means managing investments, you are not alone with your lamentably low expectations. What good would that beautiful, powerful financial plan that encompasses every aspect of your financial life be if it just collected dust? We know, it is too abominable to even consider. What does wealth management mean at Aegis Wealth Group? Implement the plan. Accomplish. Achieve. Adapt. Measure. Encourage. It means that we are a true family office that creates the best plan possible and then masterfully executes that plan with you every step of the way.
Remove Goo from the Investments
The first thing we think of when we hear someone claim they can beat the market is “salesman.” When they infer they can deliver market returns without the risk, we think “insurance salesman.” Equities, bonds, and real estate—although everything has risk—have delivered returns to patient investors, so why would anyone even attempt to beat the markets? In our experience, trying to beat the markets is simply taking on more risk or cost while facing very, very long odds.
The long term experience of investors is to earn far less than the return of the markets. This disparity is called the performance gap and it is especially important to understand. We have found that by focusing on closing the gap instead of beating the markets, we strive to deliver a consistent, tangible improvement for most investors. Aegis Wealth Group may not promise to turn the markets into risk-free rainbows with pots of gold, but we will roll up our sleeves and try to clean out gummed up investments to close the performance gap.
