Roy Jones is the co-founder and co-owner of Aegis Wealth Group.

Roy developed his values as a financial advisor first in the U.S. Army in 1992, and later in 1998 going door to door to help families become (and stay!) financially self-reliant: Candor; skepticism; innovation; intellectual growth; humility and integrity. These values are woven into the fabric of Aegis Wealth Group and clients not only noticed, they told their friends.

After studying in Provo and Jerusalem, Roy earned a B.A. in International Relations and a Minor in Military Science from Brigham Young University. He was then awarded a Graduate Certificate in Financial Planning from Westminster College and later became a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® Professional. He went on to earn a Master of Business Administration degree with an Emphasis in Financial Planning from Westminster College. Roy is a member of the Financial Planning Association and through the FPA, provides pro bono workshops to under-served individuals.

Disillusioned with record low interest rates and increasing annuity costs, Roy collaborated on a software solution led by developer Steve Sawyer, CEO of Data Presentation Products, Inc. and consultant for eBay and Northrop Grumman after serving as Senior Technical Manager at JPL and NASA. The VaultOptimizer tool, the first financial plan implementation tool of its kind, was designed from the ground up to integrate with the leading financial planning system. Its purpose is to potentially maximize portfolio gamma for investors and to more effectively manage retirement income with VAULT Lifetime Income MAX™. Roy takes an academic approach to advice and believes that clients are best served by focusing on those areas that can be measured and controlled such as goals, cost, processes and taxes. His frank and simple explanations often surprise prospective clients accustomed to manipulative sales tactics and confusing products.

Roy and Aubrey reside in Herriman with four beautiful children, two dogs and a cat. Some of the favorite places he has recently visited with his family are Akumal, Maui, Oregon and he hopes to survive an upcoming road trip to Washington D.C. with all 9 Jones life forms. He enjoys camping, racquetball, soccer, mountain biking, Lake Powell, skiing and reading.

Joshua is the co-founder and co-owner of Aegis Wealth Group.

Joshua’s business philosophy is simple: Associate with trustworthy people, remove systemic conflicts of interest, continually pursue education, and love others.

Joshua earned a B.S. in Business with a minor in Philosophy from Brigham Young University in Provo and London. While there he was awarded an academic scholarship from the Marriott School of Management. Joshua invested heavily in his financial planning education: He was awarded a Graduate Certificate in Financial Planning from Westminster College and became a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® Professional. Together with his brother, Roy, he went on to earn a Master of Business Administration degree with an emphasis in Financial Planning from Westminster College.

Early in Joshua’s career Joshua had a conversation with his brother, Roy. They discussed Roy’s experiences with the financial industry and how disappointed he was in common, legal business practices. This lead to an ongoing conversation and then a dream about what a perfect firm looked like from the client’s perspective: Great communication, no preferred fund families, no exotic vacations for selling widgets, independence from conflicting lines of business, no sales quotas, no sales incentives, no proprietary products, total transparency, exceptionally competent, below average expenses and ultimately, a perfect firm would be an uncompromising advocate for their clients and value integrity above all else. Together they created Aegis Wealth Group with one objective in mind: Provide useful financial plans.

Joshua has served as Vice President of a branch of Kiwanis International and volunteered as a Spanish linguist for United States Naval Mobile Construction Group, which provides medical treatment in developing countries. He has also translated for the LDS Church on multiple assignments. He rescued his dog from CWVRG. He is an FBI certified advocate for the Children’s Justice Center and has extensive experience working with a variety of charities. He currently serves on the Primary Children’s Hospital Planned Giving Committee as a board member.

Joshua and Amelia are absolutely in love with Salt Lake City. Every chance they can get outdoors with their two children they take. Sometimes it takes more energy to get to a location than the actual activity they are doing. From hiking up to the H Rock, taking their dog to Tanner Park, to skiing at Snowbird they are almost always out and about. They are very adventurous travelers—although often their interests diverge. Amelia loves Cinque Terre, Firenze, Lake Powell, and Cozumel. Josh loves Venice, Guilin, Oxford, Zion National Park, and Hebgen Lake. Mostly their kids just love splashing in puddles and pizza.

Getting to know Josh:

Favorite book – The Master and Margarita
Favorite movie – A River Runs Through It
Bucket list – Sail the Greek Isles as Commander and Chief with his family
Favorite destination – Kruger Park

Monica Akbar

Office Administrator
DFPG Investments, Inc.

You may have heard this a time or two (depending on how well you know Roy and Josh), “Monica is one of the best things to happen to our office”. She truly is one of the most reliable, honest, hardworking, organized, caring people around. Aegis Wealth Group was lucky enough to steal her away from Nordstrom where she spent 12 years—eight of which were in a management position. When Monica isn’t working she’s spending time with her family and caring for her many, many pets. She loves animals almost as much as being on hold with customer service (sarcasm). In fact, our office mascot is her pug, Rocky, who gets to come in when “no one is around”.

Joel Carter

Business Development
B.S. Business, Utah State University

Aegis Wealth Group is lucky to have Joel on our team. Joel has spent the past 11 years training, supporting, and managing. If anyone can explain with precision and patience it is Joel. To say Joel loves the outdoors doesn’t do it justice. Joel will drive to Zion National Park in the morning and come home that night if you ask him. A Salt Lake native, Joel is lucky to be able to spend time with his entire family every chance he gets (Think Greek Family). Joel still competes on a national level for Volleyball. Doesn’t win very often but he gets 3 stars for trying! Go Joel!

Erik Lachaga

Para Planner
B.S. Business, Finance, University of Utah (Spring 2016)
Bilingual: English/Spanish

Erik is a finance guy through and through. He loved his time as President of the University of Utah’s Financial Planning Association Chapter. More than playing with his calculator Erik enjoys weekend hikes, playing Frisbee, and most of all, spending time with his wife and son—and when everyone is sleeping he’s a top contender on P2P (if you don’t know what that is then you probably wouldn’t care!). He speaks both English and Spanish fluently.
